The Shining

The Shining
by Stephen King

Rating: 5/5

This has got to be one of the best books i have ever read. It’s just so well written. Each of the characters is so well thought out. You can’t help but sympathize with Jack and realize he is not some monster but someone who really struggles with his demons but just can’t win sometimes. The fact that Stephen King himself was struggling with his own alcoholism at the time conveys a deeply personal feeling to the book and this particular character. Wendy and her constant worry not to become her mother at the back of her mind, being torn between standing by her husband and defending her son. And little Danny… You really believe you are reading a 5 year old’s thoughts. This book is a masterpiece and i thoroughly advise you to read it. And stay far, far away from Kubrick’s ‘adaptation’ to the movies. That piece of film should have never been allowed to hold the book’s title. Don’t watch it. Don’t let it ruin this wonderful experience.
